Can I just say that today was especially excellent? It's Sister
Foutz's birthday, and so a member was kind enough to take us to
Costco!! I almost cried it was so beautiful. I don't think you
understand. American pizza. Costco cookies. TORTILLA CHIPS.
It was a good birthday P-Day for Sister Foutz. Our other birthday
activities included jungle gym exercise, birthday pancakes, and of
course waking up the birthday girl with a Mexican birthday song.
There's only more adventures to come!!
But on to the most important parts of the week. The people we get to
see everyday. First off, Mori San was baptized this Sunday! The
service was beautiful! He felt so much love from the ward, and he was
so grateful for all of the support. It was amazing to see somebody
receive so much joy by following in the steps of our Savior Jesus
Christ.
At Mori San's baptism, we sang a song called "Midaso My Friend." This
song is about 2 friends in the Pre-Earth life, who were sent to Earth
at the same time, but in extremely different conditions. Before they
came to Earth, they promised to find each other and to follow Christ's
example while on Earth so that they can return to His presence. The
song tells of a missionary who finds his Friend. While we were singing
it, I had this overwhelming feeling that I am meant to be here,
serving in Japan, at this time. I felt God's love for Mori San so
strongly, but then I looked towards the back of the congregation, and
my eyes met Adriana's eyes. She couldn't even understand the words of
the song, but we looked at each other and we both started crying. She
is one of my dearest friends, and I love her so much! She makes me so
happy, and she has taught me so much! After Mori San was baptized,
Adriana Shimai and I just sat together, and hugged each other and
cried. We felt the love of God so strongly, and it was confirmed to me
that I am doing exactly what God needs me to do right now. Wow. I'm
crying right now just remembering :)
Then, just to make Sunday the best day of my life, a young woman in
the ward bears her testimony. Her name is Hikaru, which means light
(that will be the middle name of one of my future daughters). The
definition of Hikaru is: to shine, to glitter, to be bright. She then
appropriately shares:
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a
candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good
works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Matthew 5:14-16
I'm already loving her talk, and then she proceeds to say that she
never felt that she understood how to share a light with others until
the sister missionaries came. That our smiles and the way we talked to
others lit up a room, and made her want to become better. Okay, I'm
losing it by this point. Using up plenty of tissues. She said that she
is trying to change things in her life, so that she can be that kind
of light to others. After church I thanked her for her talk and she
told me that she is considering serving a mission now.
Guys, God puts others in your life who He knows will change you, and
bring you joy. I love this ward so much, they literally are my best
friends. They make me so happy, and I can't really describe how right
everything feels right now. It doesn't mean I'm not facing challenges.
It just means that I am striving to be grateful in every circumstance.
I love you all, and I love this gospel! This is God's work, and He is
moving it forward :) I'm happy, healthy (well, except for maybe the
churro I ate for lunch), and loving life.
Love you all!
