Christ is the Reason!
I know in America anytime before Thanksgiving is too early for
Christmas, but guess what! There is no Thanksgiving in Japan, so I get
a little bit of a head start! My favorite Christmas tradition that I
have with my family is setting up my mom's collection of Nativity sets
around the house. She has over 50, from all over the world, and we
take a whole day setting them up on every flat surface of our home. I
love that my mom has taken the time to make sure that her children
really understand why we celebrate Christmas.
26 And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ,
we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that
our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of
their sins.
2 Nephi 25:26
I know that everything my parents did for me growing up was so that I
could know more of Christ, and that is exactly what I get to do here
in Japan.
I talk of Christ every day when I introduce show someone a Book of
Mormon, or show someone my name tag.
I rejoice in Christ when I see someone changing their lives to follow
the Savior. How amazing is it that Christ is allowing me to be a tool
in His hands to serve others. I'm not going to lie, I think I have the
best job in the world right now. Rejoicing with members in Kawasaki
ward, and seeing their great examples of how to live as diligent
disciples of Jesus Christ. Their enthusiasm for the gospel is
invigorating :)
My calling as a missionary is literally to teach repentance unto the
God's children in the Tokyo South mission. I get to help people
realize that feelings of doubt or regret can turn to peace through the
Atonement of Jesus Christ. That they can have the power to CHANGE
through their Savior. Okay, that's pretty awesome!
Prophesying... Honestly, I'm not sure how much prophesying I'm doing,
but I am heeding the prophecies of the prophets and striving to follow
their counsel.
And just as I'm writing this email, I'm writing so that my family and
my future children might know their true source of joy in this life.
I'm writing so that you might know that I love my Savior. That I
really do want everything I do for the rest of my life to point to the
Savior.
This past week Sister Kaizaki and I saw a ton of miracles! I gave a
training at Zone Meeting about planning days that will help you
achieve your goals. When we got home, we decided that we wanted to
level up how hard we've been working. Don't get me wrong, we work
hard. But I just really felt that we could work harder. Literally, the
moment we started working harder we started seeing more miracles. We
got to teach more lessons, and had more power as we taught. We were
blessed with the ability to better understand the needs of our
investigators, and it really felt like everything that we were doing
was not our own but completely led by the Spirit. It was incredible!!
The Lord really does match our pace as we work hard and strive for
miracles.
We met up with a 15 year old girl who's been friends with missionaries
in general for quite a long time. As we talked, she shared with us all
the concerns she had in life. I realized at that moment that it
doesn't matter where you are in the world, 15 year old girls have all
the same worries! I remember worrying about my crush, and if I was
pretty enough to hang out with my friends. You compared yourself to
others, and worried about what they thought of you. Grades were hard,
and the pressure of choosing the perfect college was excruciating.
Then you go to you part-time job, and you worry about whether you'll
have enough time to study. These feeling are universal! And they cause
a roller-coaster of emotions that seem uncontrollable. But one thing
you can control is faith. It's believing that God is your Heavenly
Father, and that in His eyes, you have infinite worth. And as you come
to understand that fundamental principle, everything else falls into
place. Don't forget that you have eternal worth!!
I love you all and I'm sorry for the late email!!
