Can I just express how incredibly blessed I feel to be serving as a
missionary in the Japan Tokyo South mission right now? I know that the
area that I am serving in and the people who I am working with is
inspired by The Lord, and it is shaping my life in more ways than I
could ever know. It is blessing my life right now, my family's life,
and I know that it will bless my future family. I am so grateful to be
here and it is the best way I could possibly be spending my time.
This week was filled with so many miracles and we were able to see the
Hand of The Lord in a lives numerous times.
Miracle #1: We have a dining set now!! I know this seems silly, but it
is SO NICE to be able to come home and sit at a table to eat dinner.
Sitting on the floor was fun, But I really missed chairs and a table.
Putting it together was an adventure, and we have tons of cardboard
lying around (we'll figure out how to recycle it eventually) but it
was totally worth it! Our apartment is finally feeling like a home,
and feeling really comfortable! Members even gave us some dishes so it
feels like we're in a family home, not a brand new apartment. Things
are much more comfortable, and it is becoming a place where we can
receive revelation for our the Atsugi area.
Miracle #2: Our finding and streeting time is becoming so effective!!
Even though Sister Jolley doesn't speak that much Japanese yet, she is
literally opening her mouth and talking to everyone. And she is just
so cute that everyone wants to talk back!! We were in a meeting with
the ward leaders and they asked how we were able to meet so many
people and get them to come to English class. My response: Cute purse!
That's right, we get people to talk to us by complimenting them. It
may sound tricky, but it is just so natural that we can't help it! As
women we naturally compliment people's appearance, but often those
conversations can develop into something much more meaningful. The
ward leaders were pretty amused, but I think they like the feminine
twist we bring to the area.
Yesterday while streeting we were talking to the girl, and then a man
and woman from India stopped us and asked us to take a picture with
their family. It was so funny, and we just laughed with them and had a
great time. We looking to find the prepared people who are ready to
hear the gospel. but I do know that these other people are getting a
pretty good first impression!
Miracle #3: I love the members in this area. Their faith is so strong,
and they want so badly to help hasten the work of salvation. They help
us with whatever we need, and they constantly thinking of ways that we
can help serve their less active or nonmember friends. I love it!! I
love the easy relationship we have with all of them and their
willingness to serve and love. Many of their families are less active
or not members, and I know that through their service, their families
will be blessed.
Miracle #4: I'm on Facebook now! Kind of weird because of what a time
waster it was before my mission, but I cannot wait to use it to help
the people I love so much here in Japan. What a magnificent tool it
can be, and I am so excited to use it to help others come unto Christ!
I mean, it took a little bit of time to set up (who knew that being
obsessed with Ke$ha in high school would leave such a huge blotch on
your social media life?) but I really am excited to use this thing
that I love so much to serve The Lord.
Miracle #5: Elder Cook and President Maynes of the 70 came and held a
conference in a combined mission conference with the Tokyo Mission. It
was incredible to learn at the feet of a special witness of Christ and
better understand my role as a servant in the Lord's vineyard. He
spoke about mission calls, and said that as they assign them, they
assign us to both a people and a mission president. That could not be
more true for me. I love the Japanese people with all my heart. They
are simply good people. People who love their families and who are
really looking to find the purpose of life. My time here in Japan is
shaping who I am and I know it will continue to shape my future! I
also know that President Wada is an inspired mission president for me.
He guides me so much and is always ready to help me improve.
This is Christ's church! I am grateful for the opportunity I have to
declare those glad tidings every single day! I am happy, because I am
striving to be 100% obedient. I am grateful for my Savior Jesus
Christ, who really is my perfect example! I am striving to become like
Him, and I am grateful for His patience with my shortcomings.
I love you all and want you to know that I am happy!
